I hated to leave Colorado, it is the most beautiful place I have been. I can not wait to go back. Here is a quick recap over our last days.

WED-Went to OBJ ended up trying to get some guys truck out of the Slate River and did not get to run it, it will have to wait until next year

THURSDAY- Drove to Vail and watched the Teva steep creek race and camped at Sylvan Lake

FRIDAY- Evan & Nate ran Homestake, I swam, but we had safety set and all was well, but I was humbled. Nate Ran it all and made it look easy.

SATURDAY- Went to the Teva Mt. Games, won a new pair of Teva Shoes and got a free pair of Native sunglasses. Watched the kayaking free style events, womens bouldering, dog comp, and the fly fishing events. Then we left Colorado and drove through the night back home

Pine Creek and Numbers of the Arkansas

Nate, Evan and our new friend Riley spent a few days on Pine Creek and the Numbers section of the Arkansas. and pick up Bert's new boat, a Jefe Grande. After picking up the boat we drove up to the cascades for an elf run. The Cascades can be run much lower than people think. The level was around 130cfs when we put on above the Horns of God. This was Bert's first run down the Cascades. He had a good line on the Horns and the slide after, but got flipped in some funny water. He tried to roll but swam to avoid going over the next rapid upside down, which was a good call, and made it to a big eddy on river left. I ran past him trying to catch is boat before it wash down river but it got pinned on river right. This gave us an opportunity to practice retrieving a pinned boat, which we freed in a few minutes. After this we called it a day and hiked back to the truck. When we got back to the house we outfitted the new Jefe in 20 minutes and said goodbye to the diesel forever.

LRC Jan 11 2009

Yesterday, January 11, we went kayaking. Here, I will fill you in with my normal trip report format. No pictures from the run, but Nate is working on a video, link to come soon.Who: Evan, Nate, Bert Where: LRC Chairlift, ~1,200 CFS When: January 11, 2009Well, after the crazy weekend shenanigans in Statesboro (Gin Buckets, girls who find my jokes to be funny, getting the dog back, ripped $20's, seeing my brothers) I got up at 5:30 Sunday morning, loaded up, and headed to Cartersville to meet up with Evan and Nate.I arrived on time, much to Evan's surprise. We headed for a quick stop at my house, dropped off the dog, picked up the paddling gear, and headed across the border. After some time getting ready, we proceeded along the Canyon Rim Road to the put-in. Nate took some footage along the way.The river was TOTALLY different from our previous experience in the canyon. Rocks existed everywhere, and the waves were much smaller. I styled Blue Hole Memorial, but Evan took a bit, and decided to demonstrate how good his hand roll is for the camera. Bottleneck was amazing. This is my second sight at a real Class IV rappid (I'm not sure what the Upper Ocoee is, and I've never just sat out there and looked at it anyway, only paddled it. Last time it was huge, with water everywhere, big holes, lots of class IV boogie water, and more holes. This time, at a normal level, there was an easier path to walk the rapid, as well as scout and take footage. It became technical instead of big. Evan and Nate learned why they had problems with it last time...but with no pictures it is hard to explain. The rest of the run was fun. There was one other four foot ledge thing with a good boof opportunity. I didn't boof too well, but i had no problems with the rapid.

Southern Adventure Climbers & After setting shuttle we finally made it on the river. Everyone had a great line through the first ledge. Liz did much better than last week and had a great line and boof. On a no name rapid with a small branch sticking out Bert tried to duck, but because he is so tall it flipped him. He lost his paddle and tried several hand roles but could not get upright. The others tried a T rescue but with no luck.
Nate ran Second Ledge first to set up the camera, I followed and had the best boof of my life. Jacob came next and made it look easy, then Bert, and finally Liz. Unfortunately Liz went to far right and melted the hole causing her to swim, she collected her own gear emptied her own boat and rejoined the group. We ran to Baby Falls and all the boys had good runs however because of their earlier swims Liz and Bert got out and wait for the rest of us to run through the knee and get the truck. Everyone had great lines except Nate did have to improvise on one part of the knee when he ended up to far right. The day was ended with the traditional Mexican dinner ,which is the oldest tradition in club sack, and a long car ride home.

What We Are Doing

Club Sack was formed several years ago, we spent most of our time around the S.E United States Kayaking, Climbing, and Backpacking. Kayaking emerged as the groups main focus and we paddled 50 to 100 days a year. However life got in the way, people got married, started carriers and tried to finish school. December 2008 saw the group come back to life and rededicate themselves to the great outdoors. This will be the new story of Club Sack, and a journal of our training leading to our 10 day trip to Colorado.
